Lines and families

In Lipica, the classical lines of stallions are the following:

PLUTO (the founding sire is the original Danish grey stallion Pluto, born in 1765 in the Frederiksborg stud)

CONVERSANO (the founding sire is the Neapolitan dark brown stallion Conversano senior, born in 1767 in Italy)

NEAPOLITANO (the founding sire is the Neapolitan brown stallion Neapolitano senior, born in 1790)

FAVORY (the founding sire is the grey stallion Favory senior of Spanish origin, born in Kladruby in 1779)

MAESTOSO (the founding sire is the stallion Maestoso X, born in 1819)

SIGLAVY (the founding sire is the original Arab stallion Siglavy, born in 1810 in Arabia and introduced to Lipica in 1816).



The classical families of mares are the following (Lipica uses the name after the dash):

SARDINIA – Betalka (the founding dam was the mare of Karst breed Sardinia, born in 1770)

SPADIGLIA – Monteaura (the founding dam was the mare of Karst breed Spadiglia, born in 1770)

ARGENTINA – Slava (the founding dam was the mare of Karst breed Argentina, born in 1750)

AFRICA – Batosta (the founding dam was the mare Africa, born in 1740 in the Kladruby stud in Czechoslovakia)

ALMERINA – Slavina and Samira (the founding dam was the mare Almerina from Kladruby, born in 1769)

PRESCIANA – Bonadea (the founding dam was the mare Presciana from Kladruby, born in 1782)

ENGLANDERIA – Allegra (the founding dam was the mare Englanderia from Kladruby, born in 1773)

EUROPA – Trompeta (the founding dam was the mare Europa from Kladruby, born in 1774)

STORNELLA – Steaka (the founding dam was the mare Stornella, born in 1784 in the Kopčany court stud farm, Czechoslovakia)

FAMOSA – Strana and Famosa (the founding dam was the mare Famosa from Kopčany, born in 1783)

DEFLORATA – Capriola and Canissa (the founding dam was the Danish mare Deflorata, born in 1767)

GIDRANA – Gaeta and Gaetana (the founding dam was the Arab mare Gidrane, born in 1841)

DJEBRIN – Dubovina (the founding dam was the Arab mare Djebrin, born in the Babolna stud farm in 1862)

THEODOROSTA – Wera (the founding dam was the Arab mare Theodorosta, born in Bukovina in 1886)

MERCURIO - Gratiosa or Gratia (the founding dam was the Arab mare Mercurio, born in the Radautz stud farm in 1883)

REBECCA – Thais (a new family, the founding dam was the Arab mare Rebecca, born in the former Arab stud farm Speiser).
