From the FEI Veterinary Department we recently received the information about the outbreak of the Equine Herpes Virus in western France.
We considered the risks that such conditions present, regarding the FEI CDI 3* competition that was scheduled in Lipica from May 25 to May 27th 2018. With regard to the proximity of the breeding herd and total population of Lipizzan horses in Lipica to the stabling area for competing horses and hippodrome, we decided to take all necessary measures to decrease and possibly eliminate the possible viral infection of our horses.
Lipica is the original stud farm of the Lipizzan horse breed, currently in the process of registration onto the UNESCO World Heritage List. Our breeding herd is of an exceptional value and importance for the Republic of Slovenia, which is the founder of the Lipica Stud Farm.
This is why we decided to cancel the FEI CDI 3* competition, that was scheduled from May 25th to May 27ay 2018, due to the outbreaks of the Equine Herpes Virus in France.
We hope you can understand our decision and our concern for the preservation of the Lipizzan horse breed.
We apologise sincerely for all the inconveniences this might cause to the competitors, team members and official staff.
We look forward to welcoming all the riders and fans of the equestrian sport in Lipica at the 2019 FEI CDI3* competition.
