Dolina valley of Our Lady of Lourdes
Lipica was under the rule of the imperial court from Vienna until First World War. In the period from 1848 to 1875 the stud farm was managed by Karel Grünne who was seriously ill and tried to recover in the valley where he spent all days until he got better. As a sign of gratitude he ordered to erect a chapel carved in the natural wall with a statue of Our Lady. He arranged the whole valley with paths and ordered to plant flowers. The valley became a small sanctuary. Numerous miraculous recoveries followed. Until Second World War masses of people, mainly from the region of Trieste, made a pilgrimage to this miraculous place.
The shrine was renewed in 1993 so that the valley would again become a pilgrimage path. Cannonical ceremonies are also organised in the valley occasionally.
