On the 2016 Day of the Lipizzaner on Sunday, 22 May, visitors to Lipica Stud Farm will have another opportunity to see the Lipizzaner stallion 085 Favory Canissa XXII.
Lipizzaner enthusiasts will be able to admire this beautiful horse just a month after today’s festivities celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The British monarch has owned 085 Favory Canissa XXII since 22 October 2008, when it was presented to her during her visit to Lipica Stud Farm.
The majestic stallion turned 24 on 4 March this year. To date it has sired 12 colts and 13 fillies in Slovenia. The stallion continues to pass down its noble genes to this year’s generation of Lipizzaner foals, and it has sired two fillies born this April in Lipica: Thais was born on 1 April and Dalmatia on 11 April. By early June, three more foals sired by 085 Favory Canissa XXII are expected to join the Lipica Stud Farm stable.
Visitors will be able to see the two youngest additions on the Day of the Lipizzaner on Sunday, 22 May. The event is organised in honour of Charles II, Archduke of Austria, purchasing the Lipica estate on 19 May 1580. This is considered to be the founding date of Lipica Stud Farm and the start of breeding the Lipizzaner horse.
