Lipica, 16. 5. 2017
On Sunday, 21 May, the most beautiful Lipizzaners of Lipica Stud Farm and the Slovenian Lipizzaner Breeding Association will be the main stars of the Day of the Lipizzaner celebration, which is a tribute to the Lipizzaner’s and Lipica Stud Farm’s 437th birthday.
A highlight of the attractive all-day family programme will be a gala performance of the most beautiful Lipizzaners and equestrian guests beginning at 15:00 at the Lipica hippodrome. The most beautiful Lipizzaners of Lipica Stud Farm and the Slovenian Lipizzaner Breeding Association, which connects private breeders of these magnificent horses in Slovenia, will perform.
19 May will mark 437 years from the day when Habsburg Archduke Karel II, a son of the Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg, purchased Lipica estate from the Bishop of Trieste. By that he laid the foundations of the future Lipica Stud Farm. This day is also considered the beginning of breeding of Lipizzaner horses.
The celebration will begin at 10:00 with marathon carriage driving, the finals of the National Driving Championship. Later, visitors will be able to enjoy the nice weather and see this year’s Lipizzaner foals in front of the Borjača stables.
This will be followed by presentations of the process of attaching harnesses and horseshoeing, while for children there will be creative workshops and a workshop with a pony. For families, an unforgettable experience will be a carriage drive along the most beautiful Lipica avenues, and visitors will be able to attend a guided tour around the stud farm.
The gala performance – both music and dance – will present the Slovenian Lipizzaner as an exceptional driving horse, and as an excellent horse for young horse lovers. For the grand finale, selected stallions of Lipica Classical Riding School with spectacular jumps of the School above the ground will enter the hippodrome.
A touching end to the celebrations will be prepared by this year’s foals – the most valuable jewel of Lipica Stud Farm – which will enter the hippodrome accompanied by their mothers, breeding mares.
A new introduction to the celebration of Lipizzaner’s Day will be a National Driving Championship, which will begin on Saturday, 20 May, with dressage and obstacle driving, and which will finish on Sunday, 21 May in the morning, with adrenaline packed marathon driving.
