The youngest foals prepared the most touching moment of the Day of the Lipizzaner

Lipica Stud Farm and the Slovenian Association of Lipizzaner Breeders celebrated yesterday the 437th anniversary of the Lipizzaner horse. Numerous visitors were amused by the gala show of noble Lipizzaner horses and equestrian guests. The 20th foal of Lipica Stud Farm was born during the celebrations.

The most beautiful Lipizzaner horses of Lipica Stud Farm and the Slovenian Association of Lipizzaner Breeders were the stars of the Day of the Lipizzaner, which took place yesterday, 21 May, organised to celebrate the 437th anniversary of both the Lipizzaner breed and Lipica Stud Farm.

The peak of the gala show was the arrival to the hippodrome of 12 vivacious, dark foals of the current generation, accompanied by their mothers, the noble mares of Lipica Stud Farm. The audience was also surprised by the white horses with yokes, the spectacular jumps, the pas de deux dance of two Lipizzaner studs, and the quadrille of young Lipizzaner horses.

They also took us back 437 years, when the very first pages of the Lipica Stud Farm and Lipizzaner stories were written. “On May 19, 1580, Charles II, Archduke of Habsburg, enjoyed the richness of Lipica estate and purchased it from the Bishop of Trieste, founding a stud farm on this very location,” as highlighted in her opening address by Lorela Dobrinja, Manager of Lipica Stud Farm.

The Slovenian Association of Lipizzaner Breeders, which encompasses all private breeders of this breed, exposed how popular the Lipizzaner is as a companion to pass spare time with. Together with Lipica Stud Farm, the Association “cares about the breed of Lipizzaner horses, the education of its members and the public, the promotion of our Lipizzaner horses, and nourishes the ties with other breeder organisations in Slovenia and abroad,” explained Marko Avšič, President of the Association.

The intrepid Lipizzaners of the Ljubljana on-horse police unit and members of the Slovenian Association of Haflinger Breeders also took part in the celebrations.

The festivity kicked off with the national championship in pair combined driving, which saw once more the victory of Miha Tavčar, Lipica’s own driver. Thanks to Mitja Mahorčič and Klemen Turk, the silver and bronze medals also stayed in Lipica.

And to bring even more joy was the news that the newest foal, twentieth of this generation, was born yesterday afternoon. Her name is Capriola, descendant of mother 630 Capriola XL and the noble stud 522 Neapolitano Gaetano XXXII, which performed yesterday during the pas de deux, hence continuing the story of pride, success, and extraordinary character of the Lipizzaner breed, Slovenia’s finest worldwide promotors.
