Watching a training session in Lipica is a great opportunity to see first-hand the methods and approaches of the Lipica Riding School. Under the watchful eye of the main trainer, the riders perform all the movements you can see in the Lipica Riding School’s show, but in a somewhat more relaxed atmosphere. At the end of the training, you can ask the main trainer to tell you a secret or two about what makes Lipica unique.
The admission fee includes:
- Unlimited access to the grounds of the Lipica Stud Farm during opening hours

More about official training
The Lipizzan horse is extremely teachable, and progresses quickly in the hands of a proper rider. Schooling starts when the horses are three years old, and can last for over six years. During this time, the horses are taught the highest-level movements, socialisation with other horses, and they also become acquainted with people and their characteristics. At the beginning, cooperation between horses and riders primarily means the building of trust, because this is the foundation that later makes it possible to also teach the horses movements they rarely do naturally.
Training is done throughout the year and takes place in the riding hall.

Enjoy a show full of music, harmony, and elegance in motion, amid the enchanting Karst landscape. Lipica’s riding masters will perform all the elements the Lipica riding school is noted for. The capriole, levade, grand quadrille, and other higher-level movements that only the best Lipizzan horses can handle, are the result of many years of work and trust between the rider and the horse.

More about the show
A result of over 400 years of tradition, knowledge, mutual respect, and harmony of Lipica’s riding masters and the white horse, the show is about love, contact with nature, and the art of classical dressage. The genuine bond between the rider and the Lipizzan horse is presented in the universal language of beauty.
The show is 55 minutes long and is suitable for all age groups. No dogs, photography, or filming are allowed in the riding hall.

About the visit
Lipica offers both guided tours led by knowledgeable guides, and independent tours where you can immerse yourself in the stud farm’s natural and cultural heritage by yourself. Tours are available in all seasons during the opening hours of the stud farm and are conducted in five languages (advance notice is recommended). In Lipica, every season has a special charm, so a visit several times a year is a great opportunity to get to know the other natural elements the Lipica Stud Farm offers besides horses. On spring tours you can meet young foals, in summer you can watch mares and foals play in the pool (called “kal”), in autumn you can admire the centuries-old avenues, while winter is a great time to visit the museums and the gallery.
