Carriage Ride
Long before horses were ridden for the first time in prehistoric times, man harnessed them for help with outdoor work. The invention of the carriage was extremely useful in other areas as well, because it allowed people to travel great distances quickly, while transporting larger amounts of cargo. For many centuries, the carriages of Lipica drove between Trieste and Vienna, travelling the entire journey in just three days.

Trail riding
Trail riding across the Lipica estate and the nearby Karst is a nice way to relax, and an unforgettable experience. Our guides take experienced riders on Karst horses (Lipizzan horses) at a leisurely pace across parts of the Lipica estate and the Karst which visitors to Lipica don’t usually get to see.
Riders go along Lipica’s most beautiful avenues and past pastures where only Lipizzan horses have been grazing for centuries, as well as through hidden forested areas of the Karst Living Museum, a colourful karst landscape that reveals various karst features and phenomena every step of the way.
The minimum age of participants is 15 years.
For participation in the riding program, riding equipment is mandatory (riding pants, riding boots, and helmet). Up to the age of 18, a spine protector (body protector) is also mandatory. You can rent a helmet and spin protector in Lipica Stud Farm with no additional fee.
Reservation is required at least 3 days in advance.
the rider has mastered riding at a walk, trot, and canter;
a solid riding balance and mastery of riding aids are required;
riders must have a membership certificate from a national equestrian organisation or an equestrian club (e.g. the Jahač 2 (Rider 2) exam of the KZS).
Trail riding is available only in the morning.
Between April and October at 9:00 AM.
Between November and March at 10:00 AM.
Upon purchase of the riding programme, an additional payment is required for admission to the Lipica Stud Farm (offered at a 10% discount).

- A back protector is required for persons under the age of 18.
- To make sure that the trail ride is a pleasant and relaxing experience that will keep you coming back for more, every group of riders is led by a Lipica Stud Farm guide, who is responsible for choosing the route, setting the riding pace, and ensuring the safety of the whole group.
- The trail riding programme is suitable and attractive especially for riders who have already mastered the basics of riding and know how to lead a horse independently.
- Before the trail ride, the guide will examine each rider’s knowledge in the riding arena. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of the whole group.
- For highly experienced trail riders, the Lipica Stud Farm offers whole-day or even multi-day trail rides, because in our experience, there is nothing better than to discover Lipica and the Karst in the saddle of a Lipizzan horse.

Dressage lessons
Dressage is a fundamental equestrian discipline. The Lipica Stud Farm trains dressage according to the principles of classical equestrianism, which is based on a partnership between the rider and the horse, and their complete harmony with each other.
The basic starting point of classical dressage is the systematic physical, mental, and technical preparation of the horse and the rider, in a patient and respectful manner, with the ultimate goal of achieving superior coordination of the two in motion at the highest level of collection.
Classical dressage is founded upon adherence to the highest ethical principles of equestrianism, and observance of the natural abilities of the horse. Riding is a difficult skill that requires the rider not only to be adequately physically prepared and to have technical knowledge, but above all to have respect and concern for the welfare of the horse as a partner.
Everyone who embarks on the journey of equestrianism must show commitment to training and learning. By mastering the technical skills, a rider can avoid circumstances where they may cause discomfort to the horse, and by knowing the horse’s characteristics and needs, they can ensure that their partner gets adequate attention, understanding, and respect.
Riding can thus transcend into equestrianism, and a merely casual leisure activity can evolve into an urban relationship between man and horse, into a rich and colourful life experience. All of this is worth the effort.
