At the FEI World Driving Championships for Pairs, today was the day of the marathon competition, which is the most attractive and demanding competition of this four-day-equestrian event. After two disciplines Martin Hölle is still in the lead.
After the 5-kilometre-long phase A, drivers faced the 8 obstacles, including the water obstacle. The marathon was won by the Slovenian driver Miha Tavčar. The second place went to Stan van Eijk (NED), who was only 0,19 points behind the winner and on the third place is Martin Hölle (HUN). The marathon was long and difficult and the ground was deep and sticky, what cost the horses a lot of power.
Three drivers were eliminated because of actions against the rules and one competitor had a fall, injured himself and was brought to a hospital for a check.
So, after the dressage and marathon, Martin Hölle (HUN) is still in the lead the day before the final cones driving. 11,22 points behind him there is Joszef Dibak (ITA), within the difference of more than three balls. But then, the distance between Beat Schenk (SUI) and Sebastian Warneck is less than a ball. The 2015 World Champion Vilmos Lazar (HUN) is in the sixth place in front of Lars Schwitte (GER). They are two balls behind the second- placed driver.
In the Nations ranking, Hungary is still in the lead but only about six points in front of Germany. On the third place there is France, but Switzerland is close behind, the difference is only 0.8 points.
Many spectators watched this exiting competition and it was a really good atmosphere on the Lipica estate.
Tomorrow’s cone driving will bring the final decision, starting at 8:30 in the main arena. They will start in the reverse order of the overall ranking, so it will be exiting until the end.
The prize giving ceremony for cones will start at 15.45 in the hippodrome, being followed by the prize giving ceremony for the best Lipizzaner Pair. This prize will be awarded by the Lipizzan International Federation. The peak of tomorrow’s closing ceremony will be the solemn proclamation and prize giving for the new individual and team world champions.
